Heartbeat...

Good news- I am nearing the end of my first trimester! Andy and I had our second prenatal visit on Tuesday. We were supposed to go last Friday, but a major blizzard hit the area. We were bummed about the 10 inches of snow and 45 mile an hour winds, but even more bummed that we had to wait another few days to hear the baby's heartbeat. It was a little bit backwards with the timing of the ultrasound and hearing the heartbeat for the first time, but we finally got to hear it! It was a little frustrating because once we heard something, the baby would shift or move and we'd lose it. But it was cool to hear about 10 seconds of it! According to our doctor, everything is progressing nicely. He was concerned about the size of my belly at first (thought it was too big for this stage of the game) but once he measured me at 12 cm he relaxed and told me I was right where I should be. I was trying my hardest to talk him into another ultrasound just to make absolutely sure, but he did laugh and promptly say "No". He did ask me though if I did ask the ultrasound tech at the hospital if there were one or 2 babies in there. I couldn't tell if he was serious or kidding! I did tell him that was one of my first questions though!!!

As far as everything else, I am feeling great. No morning sickness at all- just the tiredness. That is starting to improve more and more every week. I did buy my first pair of maternity pants which are a blessing because they are soooo comfortable!

The weather is FINALLY warming up here in the northland- all of our snow is pretty much gone after last week's blizzard, and Andy got out for his first bike ride of the year yesterday. Spring is here!

Happy Spring!

Hello Mom and Dad!

Welcome everyone to our blog! Andy and I are thrilled to be expecting our first child in October, and we want to share the progress with our family and friends. We're hoping as the child is born, we will continue this blog to keep everyone updated with pictures and news about our family!

Andy and I had our first ultrasound today. We were told at 9 weeks not to expect to see much, but as soon as the machine flipped on- WOW- could we see everything! Arms, legs, a nose- everything!! There was definite movement, and we could tell that our baby at 1 inch is developing! The lady who did the ultrasound said that our baby's growth is at about 11 weeks, so he or she is growing fast (we like to think of he or she as "advanced"!!) We could have sat in that little room all day watching the baby move on the screen, especially when we could have sworn that the baby waved to us at one point! The best part of the visit was when they switched to 3D mode- as you can see from the pictures, the baby definitely looks like a baby! So far the due date is October 31st, but that may change due to the baby's growth. I will find out at my next doctor appointment on the 11th. We have about 2 more months to go before we find out if we're having a boy or girl. We would have found out today if we could have!! We can't wait to know!!

So far I'm feeling good- no morning sickness of any kind, just complete exhaustion. I'm told that will pass soon which I'm looking forward to! Overall this has been a great pregnancy so far, and it was fun for us to see the baby for the first time today! We are anxious for this child to become part of our families. Not only will Baby Hoffmann have Derek (1 year old) and Hailey (3 years old in Oct.) to play with on my side, the Hoffmann side has a lot of cousins that will be close in age. Mia will be 2 1/2 and Micaiah will be 7 months old in October, plus Mike and Jess will be welcoming their second child into the world within weeks of us! Christmas will be fun at the Hoffmann's this year! We are giving thanks to God tonight for all of the blessings in our life. What a miracle this is!
